In the last issue of FAOTURN 2023, we have prepared a panorama of all the activities and events we have carried out as the Türkiye office in one year. We have implemented hundreds of events and dozens of projects in three different portfolio and Regular Programmes all over Türkiye. In this issue, we have prepared an informative compilation about our partnership programs in our cover file. 2023 was a very difficult year for Türkiye. The earthquakes on 6 February, which killed more than 50 000 people, were particularly challenging for everyone. FAO has been on the ground with producers from the first moment to ensure food security and reproduction in these regions, which are also important agricultural and food production basins of Türkiye. In this issue, our efforts to empower women in the sector and protect their rights also took an important place. -

No results found.The FAO–GEF Türkiye Programme, which receives funding from the Global Environmental Facility and the Government of Türkiye, offers essential assistance in various areas. These include the sustainable management of forests, land, and water resources, biodiversity conservation through agroecology practices, nature-based solutions, and climate-smart agriculture. The programme aims to boost food and nutrition security while also improving livelihoods. Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the FAO–GEF Türkiye Programme embraces inclusivity and sustainability, with a particular focus on empowering women and youth for rural development and resilience. It addresses the challenges of poverty, climate change, biodiversity loss, and desertification. Türkiye strongly supports the vision of FAO and the four betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, in order to transform sustainable food systems which are key elements to achieve the SDGs. This insightful provides detailed information about the collaborative efforts between FAO and Türkiye. -

No results found.FAO Türkiye, in line with its overall mandate, supports the Turkish Government in close collaboration and synergy with line ministries, UN agencies, international organizations, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector to strengthen three priority areas: food and nutrition security and safety; sustainable forest and natural resources management, including fisheries; and institutional capacity enhancement of the public and private sectors. Gender is one of the crosscutting themes that is mandatorily mainstreamed within all projects and regular work under the above-mentioned priority areas. FAO Türkiye’s actions for the implementation of gender commitments are guided by the FAO Policy on Gender Equality 2020–2030 which recognizes that persistent inequalities between women and men constitute a major obstacle to agriculture and rural development; and that eliminating these disparities is essential to building sustainable and inclusive food systems and resilient and peaceful societies. The implementation of equality goals and targets are the shared responsibility of line ministries, other government offices and civil society organizations. The National Action Plan on Women’s Empowerment 2018–2023 aims promote women’s participation in economic and social life; ensure women’s equal access to rights and opportunities; and mainstream the principle of equality between women and men into all the main state plans and programmes. In response to the challenges, FAO Türkiye cooperates with the Turkish Government to deliver a range of gender mainstreamed and women-focused actions. This compilation of practices from the field aims to raise awareness among practitioners by sharing experiences and lessons learned to develop future actions.
