Synopsis (short abstract) The book’s aim was to compile the existing data on organic agriculture and those collected through the project activities in order to display the current state-of-art in Azerbaijan. The book will also be available in the Russian and Azerbaijani languages to help decision makers and all stakeholders. This basis is expected to trigger further activities and projects on organic agriculture. The funding and support provided by the FAO-Turkey Partnership Programme (FTPP) to both the project and the b ook is deeply appreciated.

    Funded by the Government of the Republic of Turkey, the project aims to assist Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in developing measures to reduce food loss and waste. In particular, the project will support the recipient countries to: • develop national gender-sensitive strategic policy and action plans to reduce FLW; • establish FLW data collection systems, as well as measure and monitor FLW; • improve knowledge management and capacities; and • raise awareness and understanding of FLW (causes, impact and solutions) among actors in all sectors, including consumers, at national and regional level, leaving no one behind.

    As part of its efforts to diversify the economy, the priority of the Government of Azerbaijan is stimulating growth of agricultural sector. To this end, a project funded by the European Union and implemented by FAO is supporting development of an agricultural advisory services system that is well-coordinated, demand-driven and that facilitates innovations through stakeholder networks of knowledge exchange, collaborations, and partnerships as to be better able to respond to current and future challenges in the agricultural sector and ultimately improve rural livelihoods while protecting and enhancing the natural environment. Discussions will be held as to how the transformations of the Azerbaijani advisory service system initiated by the project can be further sustained and scaled up.
