No results found.Despite significant progress made in recent decades, millions of people around the world are still affected by food insecurity and acute and chronic malnutrition. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19) pandemic has exacerbated these issues globally. Early warning information allows for the detection of crisis “hotspots” and leads to anticipatory action, which has been shown to save lives, preserve livelihoods, and increase the cost effectiveness of humanitarian resources. In order to inform evidence based decision making for early intervention when crises hit, a set of standardized tools known as the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) was developed in 2004 to assess the severity and magnitude of food insecurity in a given country or area. This project was formulated within the framework of the IPC Global Strategic Programme (GSP) 2019 2022. It supported: the overall structure of the IPC Global Support Unit (GSU); activities for the technical development, quality assurance and institutionalization of IPC; and the achievement of project specific deliverables for IPC capacity development and quality assurance at field level. -

No results found.This publication is a product of the GEF-funded FAO project ‘Decision Support for Mainstreaming and Scaling Out Sustainable Land Management (DS-SLM)’ which has developed a decision support framework (DSF). The DSF integrates experience from work with land degradation (LD) and SLM into an overall strategy for mainstreaming and scaling out SLM at different spatial and temporal scales. This publication serves as a step-by-step guide for the application and implementation of the DSF during planning, design and implementation of SLM interventions. It includes elements – both in its modules and proposed tools and methods – which can support countries in pursuing land degradation neutrality (LDN). -

The leaflet present the activities of the first component of the project “Strengthening Agro-climatic Monitoring and Information Systems (SAMIS) to improve adaptation to climate change and food security in Lao PDR”. The component, implemented in strict collaboration with the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, is titled “Strengthening agro-climatic monitoring, analysis, communication and use of data and information for decision making in agriculture and food security”. The activities includes the installment of agro-meteorological stations, the setup of a Laboratory for agro-meteorological analysis and instrument calibration, the implementation of the Laos Climate Services in Agriculture (LaCSA) system for modelling and distribution of climate services to farmers, and the facilitation of a process to ensure national Standard Operation Procedure are followed.
