No results found.A report of the Implementation and Review Support System (IRSS) study: Analyzing the benefits of implementing the IPPC. This study was commissioned by the CPM Bureau, to identify the benefits of implementing the IPPC at the national, regional and global level, while also considering benefits to different industries and sectors relating to plant health. The different aspects that were to be considered were in relation to implementation of the Convention, ISPMs and CPM recommendations, in achievin g the IPPC strategic objectives. The outcomes of this study are intended to highlight to the beneficiaries and stakeholders of the IPPC, how implementation of the Convention, ISPMs and CPM recommendations is of value to them. The beneficiaries are considered the IPPC community, at the global, regional and national levels, who are involved in plant health implementation activities. The study will demonstrate benefits using a series of case studies. -
GuidelinePrevention, preparedness and response guidelines for Fusarium Tropical Race 4 (TR4) of banana 2023Fusarium Tropical Race 4 (TR4) of bananas is the biggest threat to worldwide banana production. The increasing incursions into new territories motivate this document to provide guidance to prevent, prepare, and respond to TR4 outbreaks. The guidelines highlight actions to prevent the TR4 spread, highlight critical operational actions to prepare the governments' capacities to respond to TR4 outbreaks, and mention the technical and operational actions to approach TR4 containment when detected in a new territory. The guidelines identify actions that national plant protection organizations and relevant stakeholders may undertake before TR4 of bananas incursion in new territories. For such purposes, it provides pertinent biological and scientific information to base measures and collect information to guide the safe international trade movement of the plants, plant products, and regulated articles that can spread the TR4 of bananas. It comprises elements for pest risk analysis, phytosanitary regulations, official diagnostics, and surveillance for detection purposes. Likewise, it provides information on the first response, that considering the limited technical feasibility of eradicating the fungi, focuses on the containment measures by guiding surveillance for delimiting purposes and phytosanitary measures to contain an outbreak. Early detection and response are crucial to containing the outbreaks of TR4 of bananas. For such purposes, the guidelines include information to recognize suspect plants in the field, identify the phytopathological and molecular techniques for an appropriate diagnosis, quarantine actions and cite a suitable protocol for destroying infected plants.

No results found.As part of the FAO foresight initiative, the Implementation Review and Support System (IRSS) prepared the questionnaire - Emerging Issues in Plant Health (Annex 1) that was sent to all contracting parties participating in the 2016 IPPC Regional Workshops. The questionnaire asked participating contracting parties and RPPOs to list the five most important emerging issues related to plant health in the next two to five years and provide short explanations for each issue. The analysis of questionnaire responses was undertaken by the IPPC Secretariat to identify emerging issue trends within and between regions. The findings of this questionnaire are therefore presented globally and regionally. This information gained from the questionnaire responses will help the IPPC Secretariat, RPPOs and the Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM) understand national and regional emerging issues and trends between geographic areas.
