No results found.This publication is the third one in a row, following the background paper 'Enhancing the potential of family farming for poverty reduction and food security through gender-sensitive rural advisory services' and the Gender and Rural Advisory Services Assessment Tool (GRAST). It includes three cases studies from three continents and the good practices for promoting gender equality through RAS of the studied organziations as well as a collection of recommendations drawn from the good practices. The objective is to support RAS providers to adopt and adapt these good practices so that they can design and deliver truly gender-responsive services. Improving rural women's access to RAS can close the gender gap in agriculture. However, to do this both RAS clients and providers need to overcome several challenges. While the challenges women face to access RAS have been widely documented, there is a dearth of information regarding the good practices for designing and delivering fully gender-responsive RAS. This paper fills this gap by presenting good practices as well as systematized recommendations following the five areas of analysis of the GRAST. The case studies confirm that to provide truly gender-equitable RAS, holistic approach and systemic change are needed: the entire RAS system, including policies and institutions, staff attitudes and capacities must change. The perspective of gender equality need to become integral guiding principle within the enabling policy and organizational environment and culture. -

Professional training programme in the agropastoral and fisheries sectors in Cameroon

Investing in farmers – or agriculture human capital – is crucial to addressing challenges in our agri-food systems. A global study carried out by the FAO Investment Centre and the International Food Policy Research Institute, with support from the CGIAR Research Programme on Policies, Institutions and Markets and the FAO Research and Extension Unit, looks at agriculture human capital investments, from trends to promising initiatives. One of the nine featured case studies is the Support Programme for the Renovation and Development of Professional Training in the Agropastoral and Fisheries Sectors in Cameroon. The programme is part of the training-integration continuum preparing young people for jobs in the agropastoral and fishery sectors and has contributed to strengthening their entrepreneurial and social skills. The success of the model is based on fostering common values centred on the young person’s life project, the involvement of professionals and families in the training, and the building of national expertise in the conception, design, implementation and evaluation of the model. No results found.This report examines the potential of using mass media to enhance the access of poor rural households and women to educational opportunities. It underlines the importance for the mass media to create conditions and mechanisms whereby people have genuine access to media. The successful and innovative experience of the Bayanihan Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) in the municipality of Infanta in Quezon Province in the Philippines is documented through a case study that describes the BBC’s innovative community-based radio broadcasting model, which has been effectively used to promote sustainable agriculture. The study develops a framework for a community-based radio distance learning system (CBR-DLS) which can serve as a helpful guide to assist with the planning and implementation of radio based distance learning programmes elsewhere.
