Synopsis (short abstract) As a regional fisheries management organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)’s General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) works to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of marine living resources and the sustainable development of aquaculture in the Mediterranean and Black Sea. This project was designed to operationalize the GFCM 2030 strategy for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (GFCM 2030 strategy) adopted in 2021.

As a regional fisheries management organization, FAO’s GFCM works to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of marine life and resources and the sustainable development of aquaculture in the Mediterranean and Black Sea. This Action was designed to support the implementation of selected activities of the GFCM’s mid term strategy (2017 2020).

FAO’s General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) is responsible for ensuring the conservation and sustainable use of living marine resources, as well as the sustainable development of aquaculture, in the Mediterranean and Black Sea. The overall objective of this Action was to continue supporting the implementation of select activities approved by the GFCM at its annual sessions and within the framework of its strategies (2017-2020), with a view to ensuring the sustainability of Mediterranean and Black Sea fisheries and aquaculture.
