Synopsis (short abstract) This short brochure is about the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)'s Analytical Support Mechanism to the Common Country Analysis (CCA) and United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). It is a pilot initiative designed to accelerate agrifood systems (AFS) transformation at the country level by providing robust analytical support and data that inform the CCA/UNSDCF process.

    Agricultural cooperatives and other forms of collective action are key to addressing challenges faced by small-scale family farmers in the Near East and North Africa (NENA) region. Despite their importance, efforts to support them remain fragmented. In response, FAO RNE, in collaboration with ICA Asia-Pacific and ICA Africa, launched a regional initiative to strengthen government–cooperative dialogue and foster a more enabling environment. As part of this effort, the Strategic Dialogue on Cooperative Development, held in Casablanca in January 2025, brought together stakeholders to share knowledge, explore policy reforms, and enhance the role of cooperatives in transforming agrifood systems, advancing food security, and promoting sustainable rural development in the region.

    National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) serve as vital policy instruments for guiding countries’ efforts to reduce vulnerability and build adaptive capacity and resilience to climate change impacts. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) plays a central role in supporting adaptation efforts and advancing NAPs globally. Through technical support, institutional support, improving access to finance, and the provision of knowledge products and tools, FAO supports developing countries in the formulation and implementation of NAPs that increase resilience in agrifood systems across FAO mandate areas (agriculture, forestry and fisheries).
