Synopsis (short abstract) Lady Finger banana, also known locally as Pisang Mas or Kirana, is one of over 200 banana varieties produced in Indonesia. It is a small, sweet variety with a soft texture, popular as a dessert banana and snack. Indonesia is a major global banana producer and exporter. Lady Finger bananas are cultivated primarily in East Java, West Java, Lampung and Central Java provinces, often by small-scale farmers and women producers. The variety is grown organically and has obtained certifications like Dutch GAP and PRIMA 3. While mostly consumed fresh domestically, bananas are also processed into chips, flour, cakes and other value-added products by food industries concentrated in Java. The factsheet identifies opportunities to support organic production, strengthen marketing of bananas and processed products, establish integrated processing units involving farmer groups, and promote domestic consumption of nutritious bananas like Lady Finger.
