No results found.The project aimed for enhancing livelihoods and food security in a group of Pacific Island Countries using Nearshore Fish Aggregating Devices (nFADs) as a tool. The evaluation found that the project approach was relevant. Beneficiaries appreciated the project’s holistic approach. The project team’s concerted efforts enabled flexible implementation despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The evaluation found evidence of success. This included the development of human capital by enhancing specific technical skills and broad-based business literacy. The evaluation recommended to develop an integrated nFAD database and to institutionalize the use of nFAD to ensure sustainability. -

No results found.Despite the progress made on climate change adaptation and mitigation in the Pacific, the agriculture sector remains peripheral in regional discussions on climate change and the path required for a sustainable future The Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture ( began during Fiji’s leadership at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ( Conference of the Parties ( 23 and discussions, expert meetings and workshops dedicated to the KJWA have continued since that date The KJWA addresses six interrelated topics on soils, nutrient use, water, livestock, methods for assessing adaptation, and the socio economic and food security dimensions of climate change across agricultural sectors An emphasis on the importance of agriculture and food security in regional strategic climate change dialogue is essential if countries are to quantify the potential benefits of climate mitigation actions on the agricultural sector Significant progress has been made in recent years, with countries agreeing on a roadmap for the KJWA and, in 2018 42 submissions to the KJWA were made to the UNFCCC. -

No results found.The project aimed to mitigate the negative impacts that productive sectors have on biodiversity and to establish sustainable, resilient agrifood systems in Pacific countries. To achieve this, the project successfully developed the “Pacific Action Plan on Mainstreaming Biodiversity Across Agricultural Sectors (2024-2030)” (Pacific Action Plan), following a highly consultative, multi-stakeholder process that identified priority needs and challenges across the Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs). This plan facilitates coordinated and cohesive action among stakeholders and ministries responsible for biodiversity across various sectors. The Pacific Action Plan was presented, distributed, and officially endorsed by FAO members during the 37th session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference (APRC) in February 2024. Following its endorsement, representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture (MoAs) of Pacific Islands were invited to participate in CBD sub-regional meetings, where they will collaborate with CBD national focal points to enhance the implementation of the GBF in 2024.
