FactsheetSupport to the Ministry of Agriculture to Prepare National Strategy Integrating the SDGs in its National Agricultural Planning - TCP/GUY/3801 2024
Also available in:
No results found. In Guyana, new factors such as climate change, declining international commodity prices and future revenues from offshore oil discoveries require the Government to rethink the future of the agricultural sector and consider the potential for diversification in the coming years. Given the challenges ahead, the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) needs to be strengthened. In particular, reliable statistical information is essential for planning, monitoring and evaluating agricultural policies. Guyana lacks essential structural data collected through agricultural censuses and has no benchmark for regular data collection through surveys. Recognizing the need for a strong agricultural statistical system capable of collecting the data required for evidence-based decision making, the MoA has requested FAO technical assistance to update its National Strategy for Agriculture and prepare a Strategic Plan for Agricultural and Rural Statistics. -
FactsheetMainstreaming Sustainable Food and Agriculture Systems into Medium Term Policies of Mongolia for the Achievement of SDG 2 - TCP/MON/3807 2024
Also available in:
No results found.Over the past several years, Mongolia reformed its development planning. Celebrating the 95th anniversary of its first Constitution, Mongolia ratified a constitutional amendment and approved the Law on Development Policy, Planning and Management in May 2020. This led to the adoption of Vision-2050, a 30-year development policy focusing on food security and a sustainable, competitive agriculture sector. However, and despite contributing to 12 percent of Mongolia’s Gross Domestic Product and employing 24 percent of the labour force (2020 data), agriculture in the country remained unsustainable and unproductive due to outdated technology and inadequate physical and institutional infrastructure. High transportation and logistics costs, poor connectivity between farmers and consumers and market manipulation by traders exacerbated these issues, resulting in higher consumer prices and lower farmer profits. To address these challenges, the government aimed to improve the agriculture system and food supply chain through integrated policies under Vision-2050 and a new ten-year development programme launched in June 2022, which sought to ensure sustainable and inclusive food systems towards achieving the SDGs. -
Programme / project reportPromotion of Sustainable Livelihoods and Territorial Development in South Sinai, Egypt - TCP/EGY/3903 2025

No results found. With an estimated population of just over 600 000, the Sinai Peninsula is a geographically and demographically distinctive part of Egypt. It hosts a small but significant indigenous Bedouin population alongside seven natural protected areas spanning over 15 000 square kilometres, forming the backbone of its tourism-based economy. Administratively divided into North Sinai and South Sinai Governorates, Sinai’s strategic geopolitical location has made it a focal point of political conflict and more recently, heightened security risks and military presence. Over the past decade, the Government of Egypt has made significant investments to enhance peace, security and social and economic stability, while safeguarding the region’s fragile ecosystems. Despite these efforts, Sinai continues to face persistent development challenges, including high levels of multidimensional poverty and gender inequality, as well as limited access to decent and environmentally sustainable livelihood opportunities. Traditionally, rural Bedouin communities have relied on agriculture, especially livestock rearing and limited rain-fed farming. Although tourism offers additional livelihood opportunities, much of this employment benefits individuals from neighbouring governorates and urban centres rather than local residents.
