No results found.South Sudan’s protracted conflict remains the largest contributing factor to internal displacement and exodus of refugees into neighbouring countries. In 2018, there has been an increase in the number of South Sudanese refugee arrivals in the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda. For 2019, FAO is requiring USD 34 million to assist 434 175 South Sudanese refugees in the region through livelihood support. -

No results found.The Democratic Republic of the Congo has the world’s highest number of people in acute food insecurity. Without urgent assistance, about one-quarter of the population is projected to be in IPC Phase 3 or above (Crisis or worse) by June 2025, with 80 percent residing in rural areas. The country also has the second-highest number of internally displaced people in Africa, primarily due to armed conflict in the eastern provinces. FAO's emergency agricultural interventions provide cost‑effective solutions for vulnerable communities to quickly produce nutritious food. For example, with just 50 g of quality seeds, a household can harvest up to 250 kg of vegetables in just four weeks, worth USD 480. -

For over two decades, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has suffered from a series of shocks – armed conflict, epidemic outbreaks and natural hazards – that have continued to increase humanitarian needs and people’s vulnerabilities. In order to provide livelihood support in 2019, FAO requires USD 50 million to support 1.8 million people.
