No results found.This report is the outcome of a visit made to the Sudan in August 1981 of which the goal was to assist the Marine Fisheries Division to formulate a programme for the utilization and marketing of marine products from the fishing villages situated along the Red Sea coast, with particular emphasis on Mohamed Gol and Dungonab. The report discusses the existing facilities, recommends that development be focused on a strengthened fisheries Cooperative at Mohamed Gol and suggests a programme for post-h arvest fish handling, processing, storage distribution and marketing of marine products. -

No results found.The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Government of the United Arab Emirates is deeply involved with the development of marine fisheries in the country and to develop a statistical system which will produce appropriate statistics to measure the growth of development taking place. The types of statistics necessary for such purpose are enumerated by considering each of the three phases of the fishing industry which are: catching fish; processing, curing and preservation; marketing and d istribution. Appropriate methods for collecting data for the estimation of these statistics are also discussed. The requirements of minimum staff are also indicated. -

No results found.The paper evaluates the existing status of marine Fisheries Statistics in Sudan and describes the type of data that are needed for economic evaluation of fisheries and biological/stock assessment studies. A phased two-year plan of development of a statistical system covering marine fisheries in Sudan is proposed. The system is based on regional concepts and uniform definitions of statistical items to facilitate inter and intra country comparability of the collected fishery data. The methods of c ollection of data are described in details; the facility requirement by way of manpower and equipment is examined. The cost estimate for running the two-year programme is worked out and the potential benefits are indicated.
