Synopsis (short abstract) The paper evaluates the status of marine fishery statistics in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and describes the type of data that are needed for economic evaluation of fisheries and biological/stock assessment studies. A one-year plan of development of an adequate statistical system in Jordan is proposed. The system is based on regional concepts and uniform definitions of statistical items to facilitate inter and intra country comparability of the collected fishery data. The methods of collecti on of data and their subsequent analysis are described in details; the facility requirement by way of manpower and equipment is examined. The cost estimate for running the one-year programme is worked out and the potential benefits are indicated.
