Synopsis (short abstract) For most Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS), sustainable use of the transboundary oceanic fish stocks of the Pacific Islands region is the most important potential contributor to their sustainable development. Indeed, for some SIDS, sustainable fisheries for these stocks may provide virtually the only prospect for the levels of sustainable development to which they aspire. These include transboundary and globally important food stocks, and the fisheries for them affect the globally important stocks of other non-target species in these waters, especially sharks, seabirds and turtles. Building on the successes achieved during the first phase of the Global Environment Facility (GEF)-funded project, the current project aimed to support 14 Pacific SIDS (Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu) in meeting their obligations to implement and effectively enforce global, regional and subregionalarrangements for the conservation and management of transboundary oceanic fisheries, thereby increasing sustainable benefits derived from these fisheries.

    This desk review provides an overview of the existing knowledge exchange platforms in SIDS, with a particular emphasis on identifying the gaps that the proposed FAO platform will fill as a complementary platform. This paper is neither an evaluation of the existing knowledge exchange platforms in SIDS nor an academic paper, which could easily provide critiques as an intellectual exercise. Instead, the paper is policy research driven for government, development partners and private-sector readership. This review is limited to the identification of existing knowledge exchange platforms promoting innovation and digitalization within the context of agriculture, food, nutrition, health and the environment. Conversely, to remain aligned with the phase approach of SIDS Solutions Platform development, the review is focused on the Pacific SIDS, as well as the Maldives because of geographic proximity.

    Sustainable Fish Value Chains for Small Island Developing States (SVC4SDIS) is a five-year project funded by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea. The SVC4SIDS project is working closely with stakeholders to develop sustainable fishery value chains and to identify inefficiencies and opportunities pertaining to social, economic and environmental dimensions through a multilevel, highly participatory strategy in selected countries.

    The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) launched the Digital Village Initiative (DVI) to promote digital innovations that support inclusive, gender-sensitive rural development and sustainable agrifood transformation in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The DVI adopts a country-led, user-centred, and holistic digital ecosystem approach to digital village development. This approach combines territorial strategies, innovative design, pilot projects, and local ownership to ensure that digital solutions are tailored to each community's specific needs and demands, fostering long-term sustainability.In the Asia-Pacific region, the FAO Regional Office conducted an assessment of digital village models across 13 countries, documenting pilots, models and prototypes. Inspired by this diversity, FAO developed a blueprint for supporting digital villages based on country ownership, bottom-up approaches and ecosystem-centred development. This blueprint guides the DVI's implementation and customizes support functions to each country's digital needs and advancement. This paper reports on FAO's Digital Village Initiative work in the Pacific, and was presented at the 2024 Small Island Developing States Solutions (SIDS) Forum held in Nadi, Fiji from 5-8 November 2024
